Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd is gaining traction for UNLV’s head coach position, according to Sam Gordon of Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Kidd is an assistant coach with the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, but there’s a belief that he would be interested in the job.
“Kidd, inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, was interested in the job in 2019 when Otzelberger was hired from South Dakota State to replace Marvin Menzies. Kidd didn’t have a college degree at that time but does now, according to two people familiar with the hiring process.”
The 48-years old coach is considered a good coach in the NBA as he was among the candidates for several HC jobs last summer. Kidd worked spent five seasons as an NBA head coach.
He started his coaching career with the Brooklyn Nets before joining the Bucks and becoming Giannis Antetokounmpo’s mentor for three years.
Former UNLV head coach T.J. Otzelberger joined Iowa State last week leaving UNLV’s position vacant.
