Liverpool star ‘tired’ of Klopp treatment as Bundesliga giants plot €20m bid

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund after Liverpool reportedly set their price for the midfielder.

It has been a difficult few years for Oxlade-Chamberlain at Liverpool. He initially made a bright impression after joining from Arsenal in 2017. But he suffered an ACL injury towards the end of his debut season and has struggled to get back to his best since.

The year after his injury was set aside for his recovery, so he wasn’t expected to feature much. When he did return, he managed 17 Premier League starts last season. But this time around, he has only managed two.

Jurgen Klopp has a firm hierarchy of midfielders. Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Thiago Alcantara, Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones all seem to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Even when Fabinho and Henderson have had to cover in defence, there has still been little room for Oxlade-Chamberlain in midfield. Hence, even though he is under contract until 2023, there are now doubts about his future.

According to Fichajes, Oxlade-Chamberlain has grown “tired” of his situation and has decided to leave the club at the end of the season.

One suitor has already emerged, with Borussia Dortmund reportedly trying to “seduce” him to the Bundesliga.

Dortmund believe the England international has the ideal characteristics to make an impression in their team. His dribbling ability and penchant for long-range shots are mentioned as two of the most appealing facets he has.

Therefore, Dortmund are eager to make a move to sign him. The report adds that Liverpool want to recoup €20m for the 27-year-old.

That fee should be within reach for the German giants, primarily because they are expected to sell either Jadon Sancho or Erling Haaland this summer.

They continue to insist that Haaland is going nowhere despite the prospect of losing him for much less than his true value next year. As for Sancho, though, after resisting Manchester United’s attempts to sign him last year, they could be more open to a sale now.

Either of those exits would be worth far more than the amount they would need to buy Oxlade-Chamberlain. Thus, affording him would be no problem – unless they decide to stick with both Sancho and Haaland.

Coincidentally, Liverpool could be one of the potential destinations for Sancho if he leaves Dortmund.

The Reds need to strengthen their attack after losing their edge this season. There are also fears that Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane might leave.

There have been links with a number of names but Sancho is also on their radar, according to Bild.

Dortmund have dropped their price tag for the England winger to €100m, as per ESPN, which might attract Man Utd to revive their interest. But German source Bild has mentioned Chelsea and Liverpool as other contenders for his signature.

Sancho overcame a difficult start to the season with Dortmund to get back to his best. He has provided six goals and nine assists from 23 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Now, there could be a three-horse race to take him back to England. The fact that Liverpool have a counterpart that Dortmund are interested in may give them hope.
