Rams News: Darrell Henderson Expected To Be ‘Full Speed’ By Training Camp

With organized team activities now in the books, the Los Angeles Rams were finally able to get a firsthand look at what players new and old have been working on this offseason.

The Rams made concerted efforts to revamp their run game in recent years following the Todd Gurley era. Their backfield now boasts a bonafide workhorse in Cam Akers and a solid complementary option in Darrell Henderson.

Henderson’s activity was limited throughout OTAs as he continues to recover from an unspecified injury. Fortunately, head coach Sean McVay is optimistic about his status moving forward.

McVay said Henderson is making good progress and expects to be a full participant in training camp, via Stu Jackson of the team’s official website:

It was good to see third-year pro participating in some drills Friday. When McVay was asked for a health update on Henderson during his post-practice video conference, McVay told reporters they expected Henderson to be full-speed by the time training camp comes around.

Henderson reportedly spent half of the practice working out with trainers on the side of the field. He was also able to work through some drills with the offense.

The Rams are able to kick off mandatory minicamp that will culminate with an open practice at SoFi Stadium on June 10. McVay comments indicate that Henderson should be picking up his activity as the offseason progresses.

The pecking order in the backfield was clearly established with the emergence of Akers during his promising rookie season. Although McVay has indicated an increased role for the second-year back heading into the 2021 NFL season, the offense has a number of explosive options to rely on that will help should the load.

Henderson’s versatility has been put on full display through his first two years in the league. Not only is he capable of running between the tackles, but he should also be able to etch out an integral role for himself as another option for quarterback Matthew Stafford to work with in the passing game.
