British tennis star Cameron Norrie underlined it wasn’t easy at all playing against world No. 169 Elias Ymer. Norrie, who is the top seed in Los Cabos, overcame Ymer in two tight sets 7-6 (4) 6-3. For the first time in his career, Norrie is playing as the top seed at an ATP event.

“This match had a little bit of everything, and all credit to Elias because he came out and played great,” Norrie said, per the ATP website. “It was nice to get my first match win. It was tough conditions, really warm, but it feels good to get that first match out of the way.

But all credit to him, I was honestly fortunate to get through the match”.

Norrie managed to get past Ymer

The first break points of the match were seen in the 10th game, when Ymer had two set points on Norrie’s serve But Norrie managed to get through a tough 10th game and level the set at five games apiece.

Ymer also had a set point in the 12th game but Norrie saved to force a tie-break. The two players were tied at four points apiece in the tie-break, before Norrie won three consecutive points to win a tight opener. After losing a tight first set, Ymer made a positive start to the second set as he broke Norrie in the third game to take a 2-1 lead.

Ymer served out the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead but Norrie then claimed back-to-back breaks to win five games, oveturn the deficit and book a straight-set win. Norrie plays next against American Ernesto Escobedo, who beat fellow compatriot Denis Kudla 6-4 7-6 (11).

Norrie debuted on the hard courts of Los Cabos in 2018, when he made the semifinal before losing to Fabio Fognini. A year later, Norrie suffered a round-of-16 exit in Los Cabos. It remains to be seen how far Norrie can go at the tournament this year.
