The Dallas Cowboys will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday in their fourth and final preseason game of 2021. In an exhibition typically reserved for players on the fringe of making the roster, and with the deadline to trim rosters down to 53 this Tuesday, there will be an influx of available players hitting the waiver wire and free agency in the coming days.

Final cuts offer NFL teams an opportunity to upgrade their roster and Dallas should try to take full advantage of it. Here are four players at four positions of need for the Cowboys that the team should look to sign if they are waived or released by their clubs soon.

Kevin Strong, DT – Detroit Lions

Like the Cowboys at linebacker, the Detroit Lions have a massive amount of talent at the defensive tackle position. And if it forces the Lions to part ways with Kevin Strong, Dallas should pounce.

Detroit is currently in the midst of yet another rebuild in the Motor City. And this offseason, general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell kicked off that new era in Motown by investing heavily in the trenches.

That included acquiring defensive tackle Michael Brockers in a trade with the Loa Angeles Rams. And in the draft, the Lions selected Washington defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike in the second round and North Carolina State defensive tackle Alim McNeill in the third.

With an overabundance of talent at the position, something has to give. That’s where a player like Strong, who himself has had a stellar showing this preseason, might become available. Against the Colts Friday night, he registered three total tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack (although he should have had two sacks).

The Cowboys will be without second-year defensive tackle Neville Gallimore to start the season due to an elbow injury. And Dallas could really use some more help to secure the interior of their defensive line. A disruptor like Strong would be an ideal fit if available.
