As we close in on next year’s 40th anniversary of Vintage Motorsport magazine (est. 1982!), the nostalgia juices are flowing. It’s always a joy to look back through the issue archive and bask in the volume of knowledge contained between the covers of our more than 200 published issues; but it’s especially so while nearing a noteworthy milestone.

In our perusing the shelves this week, we landed on Nov/Dec 2013, drawn in by the Don Heiny studio photograph of a lovingly restored 1952 Cunningham C-4R that was at the time in the Simeone Foundation Racing Car Foundation — a monument of Briggs Cunningham’s unrequited chase of an overall Le Mans 24 Hour victory.

Heiny’s photos and writer Ted West’s stirring narrative combine for a proper tribute to a milestone sportscar.

Elsewhere in this winter issue, Richard Petty’s favorite race (understandably the 1984 Firecracker 400); Part 6 of Richard Prince’s superb Corvette Racing history (this installment focusing on the modern era); and Part 1 in a new series tracking the history of a driver-favorite race track north of the border — now called Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, but forever remembered simply as “Mosport”.

Heading into this weekend’s SVRA Austin (Texas) SpeedTour weekend at Circuit of The Americas, it was fun to read the Steve Rossini report and peruse the pictures of the 2013 SVRA flagship U.S. Vintage Festival at Watkins Glen in its familiar September place on the calendar.
