Krawietz delivers positive Klopp news, as Liverpool make loan recall

Liverpool assistant coach Peter Krawietz said Jurgen Klopp hopes to be back in the dug-out on Sunday, while the club have recalled one loan player to help boost their depleted squad.

The Reds face a home FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury on Sunday and Klopp should be at the helm. Krawietz also revealed an unnamed player had been recalled from his loan spell and was hoping to join a squad decimated by coronavirus, which had forced the club to shutdown their training ground earlier this week.

When asked if Klopp would be back on the touchline, Krawietz said: “We hope so of course.

“He is well so far, he feels fine, but of course the regulations are how they are and he has to do tests as well. We hope he will be fine to be in tomorrow, yes.”

Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray agreed with Liverpool to cut short the loan deal for Leighton Clarkson  earlier this week.

The 20-year-old midfielder signed up to a spell with Rovers for the campaign in August. There were subsequently high hopes for his development in Lancashire, but he struggled to get into the first-team.

It’s unclear whether Clarkson is the man recalled, Krawietz said: “Yes, we have one loan player back and he will probably join the squad tomorrow.

“Of course we are searching for options for this game and for this squad nearly everywhere. We found enough players to build a team.

“I can’t talk about names. Please understand my situation, I can’t talk about that. Joel Matip joined training yesterday again, but we have to see whether he is available or not.”

Krawietz said he was unable to confirm which players would be available to face Shrewsbury as several still had to be re-tested and that some under-23s and academy players will get their chance.

“Can we expect the perfect set-up for tomorrow? No of course we can’t, but we can always show the right and perfect reaction to what is happening on the pitch,” he said.

“A proper team performance with experienced leaders in the team and young players who will get this fantastic experience to play at Anfield and feel the support of our supporters.

Krawietz: Difficult week for Liverpool

“I hope that excitement is the right word for that. I hope they can’t wait until the game starts. We try to make them as confident as they should be and as focused as they need to be.

“We had a few Covid cases with U23s. Aome are back now and we can choose a team that is able to follow our football way. And we want to play a proper game tomorrow, compact, aggressive, attacking, playing good football.”

“We came into a situation which was too difficult for all of us – we had to shut the training ground down. We always try to play and win our games, but this situation become too difficult to deal with.

“The Training ground being shut means no one could come here. We tried to stay in contact with our players during this period – just like we did in lockdown. Everyone is on their own and thanks to our great working department. We were able to find solutions for the players.

“Some could go for a run outside. For those who couldn’t go outside, we tried to give them a programme.”
