The number 1 in the world, Iga Swiatek, has described Carlos Alcaraz’s title in Madrid as “madness” and has pointed out that defeating Rafael Nadal and Novak in the same tournament is something very difficult to achieve.

Alcaraz, who turned 19 last week, treated himself to his first title in Madrid for his birthday by defeating Nadal in the quarter-finals, before beating world No. 1 Djokovic in the semi-finals. After beating Nadal and Djokovic in consecutive matches, Alcaraz dominated Alexander Zverev in the final 6-3, 6-1.

“Honestly, I have not seen any game, but I want to see the summaries for sure. I’m going to do it. I have not had time because the last few days I have been very busy practicing. I’m going to do it for sure because what he’s doing is incredible.

Yes, like winning against Rafa and Novak in the same tournament, it’s crazy,” Swiatek said. Iga Swiatek kicked off her defense of her WTA 1000 Rome crown with victory, where she posted her 24th win in a row by beating Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-3, 6-0 in one hour and eight minutes in their second round match.

Swiatek won almost 74% of her first serve points to the Romanian’s 40%. In terms of the number of service winners, while Ruse managed just three, Swiatek finished with 15.

Nadal declined to give his personal opinion

During the press conference, Rafael Nadal also touched on the Wimbledon ban on Russian and Belarusian players.

“We are working on the council to protect every single player and to work in the best possible interest of the players. What’s going to be fair or most or less fair for everybody, nothing is perfect,” Nadal said.

“When things like this happens, nothing will be perfect because we need to know that not for everybody will be perfect. Talking about things that really affects a lot of players, I think will not be good if I give my personal opinion here,” he said.

“We need to work in-house and then let’s see what’s going on.” 35-year-old Spanish tennis star, Rafael Nadal, has had a great hard-court season this year. After winning 20 consecutive matches in 2022, he suffered a shocking loss against Taylor Fritz at the Indian Wells final.

His unfortunate rib injury halted his preparation for the clay-court season. As a result, he missed quite a few tournaments, including the Monte Carlo Masters. At a recent press conference, 21-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal opened up about playing competitive tennis despite his age and injuries.
